Ask a Historian

Ask a Historian - Politics in Hungary, Eastern Europe: from the perspective of objective history

Facts, opinions about the country, from a historian living in Budapest. A coutry that's constantly wrapped up in its past mistakes, where politics and politicians battle it out using little more than rhethorics against past regimes of the socialist and fascist dictatorships. A capital that's living in tomorrow's economy and is on par with other metropolitan areas, and the country that has yet to wake up. Ask a Historian is an initiative to help put the dangers and opportunities of using past events' memories in perspective for those not familiar with the current views on the past centuries. Populism, ignorance in the media, and the real Hungary and Hungarians not really caring to regulate this loud minority: the people tired of their own politicians. The reasons and explanations all originate from past experience, the long history of people feeling deceived and used.
